Black persimmon/black persimmon
<Anecdote>
A high-quality wood that is rare among domestic materials. It is said to be a black persimmon that brings happiness, ``bringing money luck'' and ``good fortune and happiness.''
<Features>
Ordinary persimmons have pure white skin with no grain, and are called ``shirogaki.''
It has a small diameter and is severely twisted, making it worthless as a material, but a black persimmon with black stripes has been found extremely rarely (it is said to be one in 10,000) and is prized. (It is impossible to tell whether a standing persimmon tree is a white persimmon or a black persimmon based on its appearance.)
It is the rarest and highest grade of domestically produced wood, and is one of the rarest and most prized woods in the world. It is a work of art created by nature, with only one in 10,000 appearing or not appearing.
Its unique and beautiful striped pattern changes to a deeper color and luster the more it is used due to the oil content of black persimmons, giving it a personality worthy of being called a top-quality product.
<Producing area>
Distributed in Japan and China. Although it is found wild in western Honshu and south, it is widely planted throughout the country as a fruit tree.
<Color tone>
There is not much difference in the sapwood, and the whole tree is pale orange-brown in color. The heartwood is irregularly formed, and rarely has black stripes or shading, and such wood is called kurogaki and has been prized since ancient times. Peacock heather, which resembles the pattern of peacock feathers, may also appear.
<Application>
It is used for Japanese furniture, floor pillars, architectural decorations, tea utensils, etc. (It was also loved by Sen no Rikyu).
