“Gifu Prefecture Material Ballpoint Pen” Series

We have made writing instruments by carefully selecting wood that has been loved by furniture craftsmen in Hida since ancient times.
Utilizing wood, which is a bounty of nature in the mountain country of Gifu, the product has a unique design and shape that feels comfortable in your hand, allowing you to feel the gentleness of the wood and smell its fragrance. The pen barrel is accented with colored acrylic material, creating a cute and beautiful ballpoint pen.

Tono Hinoki

<Features>

This cypress is produced in the Ura-Kiso region of the Tono region of Gifu Prefecture (formerly eastern Mino Province). It has been a production area for cypress since the Muromachi period. During the Edo period, logging was prohibited by the Owari Domain in the three villages of Tsukechi Village, Ena District, Mino Province, Kawakami Village, and Kashimo Village (present-day Nakatsugawa City).
This area is close to the northern limit of the cypress growing range and has the following characteristics.

  • The annual ring width is 2 to 3 mm. It is uniform and almost perfectly round.
  • The material is pink and shiny.
  • The knots are small. Or almost none.
  • High fragrance.

Currently, in addition to the Tono region other than the Uragiso region, cypress grown in Gero city (other than the Mase region), Kamo district, Seki city (Horodo region, Mugi region), and Gujo city (Meiho district, Wara district) are also grown in the Tono region. It's called Hinoki Hinoki.
A beautiful pale pink cypress filled with annual rings.
The Tono region has climate conditions such as temperature, humidity, precipitation, and sunlight that are ideal for growing cypress.

<Application>

It is used as a sacred tree in the Geku during the Shikinen Sengu ceremony at Ise Grand Shrine.
Most of the wood is used for construction, but the wood chips can also be used as biomass and for a variety of other purposes.
Structural material. Used for interior materials.
