The sapwood is narrow and brownish-gray. The heartwood is brown. The wood contains a lot of tannin, and as the years pass, it gradually becomes darker and changes from chestnut to blackish brown. Annual rings are clear. The wood is heavy, hard and highly elastic. It withstands water and humidity well, and the material has an extremely high shelf life. Processing is somewhat difficult. Easily broken by nailing, etc., so extra holes are required.

*Please specify "cross type" when purchasing at a stationery store. The spring is not attached to the refill. Please be careful not to lose it. To replace the lead, remove it by pulling it from side to side centering on the pen fittings. Turn the black knob refill slightly to the right and remove it.
