<Features>

Tochigi is known as silk wood and is a tree species with beautiful, fine grain.
Diffuse-porous wood with unclear annual rings. Yellowish white to pale yellowish brown in color.
The dense wood grain has a silky luster when polished, and the shrinkage is called "crepe moku" (crepe-like wood grain).
It is also called the "ripple mark" and is highly valued.
Although it has low durability, it is a useful material that is easy to process and can produce large diameter trees.
Wood that shows shrinkage grain, wave grain, speckled grain, etc. is considered to be fine wood.

<Production area>

It grows naturally in Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. It is especially common in the Tohoku region and southern Hokkaido. It is also found in China.

<Color Tone>

The boundary between the sapwood and the heartwood is unclear, and the wood is generally pale reddish yellow-white to pale yellowish brown in color. The surface has a silky luster. There may be noticeable ripple marks on the cross grain.

<Applications>

Used for large crafts and furniture (especially table tops).
Items with the ripple mark are highly valued as materials for tea ceremony utensils, crafts, and decorations.
