Ebony

<Origin>

Ebony, sandalwood, and ironwood are called the three most famous Karaki woods.
A high-quality wood that was once introduced to Japan via China (Tang dynasty).

<Production area>

Originally Southeast Asia was the main production area, but now Africa is the main production area, and brown and black striped ebony is the most common.
It is a valuable wood that will become scarce in the near future due to the impact of felling of pitch-black ebony.

<Features>

It is a very heavy and hard material, making it extremely difficult to process.
It is extremely durable. It is a rare wood and the more you use it the more lustrous it becomes.
The wood grain that stands out against the pitch black is beautiful.

<Color Tone>

The sapwood is pale red, and the heartwood has alternating black and pale red stripes, forming stripes. Occasionally, it is found in pitch black, which is called true ebony or true black (maguro), and striped ebony is called striped ebony (shimakokutan, or MacArthur ebony in English).

<Applications>

Furniture, Buddhist altars, musical instruments, golf club heads, etc.
